KRYSTAL KLEER is no drag!

I've seen many "drag shows" over the years and as the show title suggests, alot have become a total drag for the past 10 years.

I was skeptical to go see another drag show, but went with a few friends since they said they liked Krystal Kleer's style and as Krystal Kleer refers to herself as "the unintentionally internationally unknown performing illisionist", this show show was anything but a drag.

This was worth missing the usual friday night 3-4-1's i usually go to. It has an almost, in a very loose way, Sandra Bernhard-ish quality to it, mixing off the wall music with each of the 4 stories told.

From what I gathered, phone sex was the opening scene, then comes the church scene at "our lady of rapturous debauchery". The beginnning of act 3, after intermission, Krystal talks about how relationships aren't always what they seem. She had some good reference points. By the last act, Krystal wraps it all up, as she puts it, what living the low life in high heels is all about, with some great one liners.

The sets, though very minimal, did not need the typical over the top glittered taffeta adorning the stage like most drag shows, to make its point.

The announcer, Camille Collins, is the narrator in a convincable
madame-esque german accent and had clever witty banter with the audience.

Michael Fischetti plays a few parts on stage during the show. His best being the drunk irish Father Conilingus, reading a passage from the book of "SEX". (yes Madonna's infamous book from years back)

Krystal Kleer's performance was a bit awkward and stiff at first (maybe due to opening night jitters) but after the intermission, her dry humor and play on words with her almost monotoned voice in telling her life stories made me giggle, as I could relate to some of them myself.

The video for "DOOSH AWAY" is a very camp take on those late night infomercials and very comical. The "BEHIND THE BEAUTY" video gave a good insight as to who and how Krystal Kleer came to be, that is, if this is a true story. The visuals during Krystal's last performance of the night "FROM A DISTANCE" (a hysterical spoof of the same song by Bette Midler) were spot on!

All in all, I had a great time coming to this show and would tell anyone looking for originality with risque music and in-your-face humor, this is the show not to be missed.
